But then I remembered.
From a quick comparison
of the two on their respective website (I built out my ideal spec for each one) it seems like the Benz pretty thoroughly cleans the kitty’s clock.
Even the Volvo V90 seems like a more appealing prospect, and it’s way less ex
pensive. Car and Driver

with me, although I disagree with their opinion that the Jaguar
is sleeker than the E400. TL;DR the E400 (now the E450) Estate is one of my favorite cars currently on sale and I want one with the Designo

I’ve actually seen an XF-R Sportbrake . It was p urdy.

I’ve seen just a couple in the wild, but I did have the fortune to get a well optioned one as a free loaner. They need to be about $10-$15k, cheaper and market it
a LOT better. I’d gladly own one. Here’s the one they loaned me.

I’ve seen zero in the wild, I think one at the dealer.
213 wagon on the other hand, I have seen numerous , including E63. MB has owned that segment since the first 123 wagons for the 1979 model year.

Good point. The MB wagon is relatively common around me ( mostly W212s) but I haven’t seen a Sportbrake in the wild either.
Could be partly due to the fact that virtually EVERY brand has a store within 5 miles of here, but the Jag dealer is 30 minutes away, but I doubt it.

I’ve seen a few where I live. I would rather have the XF personally. Just not a Merc fan I guess. You gotta remember that at this price point its not really about performance or value for many people ...its about what you like.

Or we could jump up to $96k and get a Panamera sport turismo, haha.

Come to think of it I don’t think I’ve ever seen one in person. I haven’t been to the Jaguar dealership in the time my brother has had his, and the last time I was there before was at least 2 years ago, maybe more.

I like them alright, I just like the Benz a lot better.

Yup, there’s quite a few W213 Estates in my area, including
this one
and a lovely red over Designo tan/beige E400.

Also true. I happen to like the Mercedes much better, having driven neither.

Also true.

You’re completely right about the price - I’ve found that Jags these days seem to be about 10k overpriced across the board. At least for the ones that I’ve looked at.

Or, in many cases, what you think other people will be impressed by. And that 3 pointed star seems to have a pretty strong pull around here.

sad but true.

My boss has a blue over brown E400 on a sweet lease, as her husband works for MB (on the infomatics side). Moderately loaded, 75K MSRP, I’ve ridden in it a few times.

Having had a good-looking but compromised as-a- wagon wagon once (a 2010 CTS), and having driven/rode i n by brother’s E220 (I think, it was a diesel) pretty extensively when he lived in England, I would take the Merc. If you are going to have a wagon might as well use it like one. That emergency third row can be useful at times with kids (and they love facing cars behind them).

I was disappointed to find they aren’t sold in Canada, which seems weird since wagons and hatches have always sold better here
